Maiden call for the m/v CCNI Arauco (9,000 TEUs) on the IOS service. Increased capacity at CICT, supporting growing economies and new/established supply chains, with a focus on the North African region.
With the capacity upgrade program well underway on the Indian Ocean Service (IOS), new arrivals continue at Cagliari International Container Terminal (CICT) with the latest maiden call on Tuesday May 24th – the CCNI Aruco.
The ship, named after an ancient Chilean city on the Pacific coast, is operated by Hamburg Sued. Her deployment follows that of other 8,500 plus TEUs ships recently berthed at the Sardinian hub, and with more expected to come in the following weeks.
The IOS is not the only string experiencing a capacity increase. Other services are also upgrading or have completed phase in/out operations in the past two weeks – the Med Canada Express (MCA), the Med Gulf Express (MGX) and the Levante Express (LEX).
With the growing demands of, amongst others, North African economies - for which CICT acts as an extended Homeport – this service capacity hike allows Cagliari to support further emergent and established supply chains. A combination of East-West trade lane services and well-oiled feeder connections covering all four shores of the Mediterranean basin is in fact available to logistics operators, with CICT at the center of an extensive supply chain network.
Tradition was respected as CCNI Arauco’s crew was presented with the customized crest for the ship’s maiden call. Andrea Pontis, CICT planner, handed over the memento to chief officer Michal W. Gogolkiewicz, pictured together on deck. CCNI Arauco was cleared for departure the next day.
