TCR, Contship Italia Adriatic gateway, has been recently chosen as the intermodal platform for military logistics, to transfer a convoy of military vehicles from the railway to the road, which will be used by the 3rd Italian Alpine Soldier Regiment for training at a firing range at the Apennines.
The convoy arrived early in the morning from Piedmont, composed of 15 rail wagons loaded with tracked vehicles and jeeps, and positioned on one of the three available TCR rail tracks.
TCR Team immediately started the unlashing operations, using a dedicated ramp to unload each vehicle and placing them in a dedicated area, within TCR premises.
After a final recce, the convoy left the Terminal, heading towards the training camp; all operations, from the arrival to the departure of the convoy, were completed in just three hours.
TCR Operations Manager, Alessandro Battolini, commented: “This convoy was a challenge for us as operations are certainly different from a standard container train. TCR managed the whole activity, from the programming to operations supervision, in cooperation with the military personnel. TCR has been chosen for this delicate task due to its renowned adaptability to the customers’ needs; we are therefore happy for the opportunity to showcase our flexibility and professionalism, satisfying every expectation. The modular ramp, used to unload the vehicles, was particularly appreciated, ensuring safer and faster operations.”
According to the schedule, after the training period, the 3rd Italian Alpine Soldier Regiment and its equipment will travel back to their headquarters on December 16th, using once again TCR, “the special port for special products”, as a logistic platform of choice to support the rail transfer.
