On Wednesday January 7th 2014 La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT) welcomed the maiden call of the m/v Cosco Beijing, a ship deployed by Cosco Container Lines Ltd on the jointly run Pacific-Med Pendulum 1 service, running along the trade lane linking the US West Coast to the Far East and the Mediterranean.
Launched by Korean-based Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd back in 2006, the m/v Cosco Beijing is one of five sister ships (along with Cosco Yantian, Cosco Guangzhou, Cosco Hellas and Cosco Ningbo) designed in accordance with GL class specifications, exceeding 350 metres in length and capable of a nominal capacity of 9649 TEUs.
Berthed immediately upon arrival in port, the ship was moored along Fornelli East berth while LSCT gangs commenced operations to perform the 2,151 contractual container moves, together with 42 hatch cover moves. Following tradition and during normal executions of activities on board, LSCT planning team member Marasso Francesco boarded m/v Cosco Beijing to present captain Mellios Periklis and his crew with the customized crest, as a way to celebrate the ship’s maiden call in La Spezia. M/v Cosco Beijing sailed from LSCT in the early hours of January 9th, with no delay.
