The “Ravenna Port System” is always looking on how to improve its contribution towards a safe and seamless supply chain and enhance its role as Adriatic Gateway dedicated to the North Italian and South European markets.
Under this view, Ravenna’s Port Authority presented, in 2014, the “Port of Ravenna Fast Corridor” project. The initiative – supported by the European Agency for networks and Innovation (INEA) – aims at ameliorating the flows of goods through the port by adopting new specific Information and Communication Technologies, implementing fully automated gate solutions and developing dedicated “custom corridors” with direct connections with inland destinations.
The project is also part of the Ravenna Port Development plan, and its objective includes the development of integrated Information and Communication Technologies connecting the Port telematic platform (Port Community System) with the main logistic nodes, such as intermodal inland terminals, within the transeuropean transport networks (TEN-T corridors).

The project, after an initial phase of study and analysis, is now entering its experimental phase. The pilot project is about to start within a live operational context, which will involve public and private stakeholders inside and outside the port community. If the outcomes of the project will be successful this will allow for the adoption of new technologies on a wider scale, with dedicated solutions for different origin/destination areas and set of products.
“The “Port of Ravenna Fast Corridor project” – Comments Alessandro Battolini (TCR Operations Manager) – “is focused on the experimentation of new services that the Ravenna’s Port System can provide to the logistic operators involved in the supply chain, connecting the port of Ravenna with several logistic platforms located in various inland destinations. The test of this new integrated approach will also allow TCR to sample new automatic gate solutions based on the latest technology, with expectations to further improve our gate efficiency by adopting fully paperless solutions for the data exchange and gate appointment systems to regulate the truck access to the terminal”
