The new daily service represents a major enhancement within Samskip's fully integrated, pan-European shortsea and multimodal network.
On January 8th, 2015 Rail Hub Milano (RHM) welcomed the first Samskip Multimodal train, a new dedicated intermodal rail service, connecting Rotterdam's Rail Service Centre (RSC) facility with Broström Tankers AB’s Rail Hub in Milan.
The new daily service represents a major enhancement within Samskip's fully integrated, pan-European shortsea and multimodal network. Transit times between RSC (Rotterdam) and RHM (Melzo) will take a little more than 24 hours, the rail traction is provided by Deutsche Bahn. From Melzo, Samskip will provide its clients access to Contship Italia Intermodal network which includes La Spezia, Genoa, Ravenna and Bari Gateways plus inland terminals in Padua and Frosinone.
Market expectations are high, with Samskip Multimodal indicating that it envisages a service extension to six train departures per week, witnessing the strategic partnership with RHM, the new legal entity launched in December 2014 by Broström Tankers AB which offers terminal handling services, container depot and container maintenance and repair.
