The 13,300 TEUs Unayzah, named after a key settlement in the Gulf region, in this case, a north-eastern district of Doha, Qatar made its’ debut in the Asia-Med trade, with an on time arrival and departure from La Spezia.
The Maltese flagged ULCC was moored alongside Fornelli East during the evening of Friday 13th and represents one of the final deployments in the string in arriving at a homogenous fleet size in the range of 13,000 – 15,000 TEUs.
For the La Spezia System, this represents a new milestone with now three such strings being operated on a weekly basis, more than any other Italian terminal.
Michele Giromini, Managing Director comments: “On behalf of the complete LSCT team, I extend a warm welcome to this latest ULCC deployment, where I am given to understand that, in terms of string capacity, we now operate one of the largest, if not the largest weekly string in in the Mediterranean. Given the extensive and on-going investment plan, the infrastructure is able to take these larger units in its stride”.
Operations onboard the Unayzah, have been completed ahead of pro forma schedule. Prior to departure, chief officer Mohamed Attia Abdelkader was presented with the customized crest by veteran planner Paolo Rasi, a gift from LSCT to the crew for the ship’s maiden call in La Spezia.
