Il Sistema Contship ospita la delegazione degli interporti del Baden-Württemberg

Baden-Württemberg inland ports delegation visits Italy to learn more about LSCT and RHM, two key elements of the Contship System.

Thursday May 12th saw a delegation comprising ten senior executives of German and Swiss inland terminals visit LSCT – La Spezia Container Terminal, welcomed by Michele Giromini, LSCT Managing Director and the President of the La Spezia Port Authority, Lorenzo Forcieri.

Michele Giromini presented the key features of the terminal, as well as the current and future development projects. A special focus was given to rail connectivity between Italy, Switzerland and Germany and the benefits from choosing the La Spezia System as the primary gateway for cargo destined to Southern Europe, a combination of fastest transit times from the Far East and an extensive rail network, supported by 200 plus trains a week to/from the main Italian and South European destinations.

The valued guests were given the opportunity to take a tour along the quays and other operational areas, witnessing first-hand how rail and logistic services are performed within LSCT and learning more about the full cycle of a maritime terminal and contribution thereof to the overall supply chain.

The visit continued the following day at Rail Hub Milano, the Contship intermodal logistic platform that enables fast and efficient connections between La Spezia (as well as the main Italian logistic hubs) and the markets of central and southern Europe. In Melzo, the delegation had the chance to learn more about Contship intermodal & logistic business units: Hannibal, the Group Multimodal transport Operator, providing rail and road transport service for the domestic and international markets, Rail Hub Milano, in charge of terminal operations in Melzo, Oceanogate Italia, providing the long and short distance rail traction service, and Sogemar, the Group’s historic company, today responsible of the Customs operations management.

Many topics were discussed during the visit. From opportunities relating to the inauguration of the new Gotthard tunnel, to investments that have enabled RHM’s recent infrastructural improvements (including the new 100,000 sqm yard, the rail length extension to 750 meters and the deployment of the two new RMG cranes), as well as the Group’s long term vision about further developing its intermodal network to/from the main maritime and inland terminals in Italy – the objective being that of providing the best possible service to customers and markets both in Italy and Europe.
