Il CICT General Cargo Team pronto per le prossime sfide

Cagliari International Container Terminal (CICT) – the Contship Italia transhipment hub facility and extended home port for North Africa – provides its services also when dealing with Project Cargo guaranteeing once more its reliability and versatility to the valued customer.

It is becoming increasingly common for containerships to transport Project Cargo, adjusting their stowage plan so as to make space available on board for pieces of cargo such as yachts, machinery, big cases, industrial equipment, transformers or any other kind of goods, usually characterized by some common factors: big dimensions, relevant weight, specific handling requirements, dedicated stowage allocations.

CICT has dedicated a team of skilled people to the handling of Project Cargo units. Throughout the years this team has proved its ability in handling efficiently and in full respect of safety and security procedures various types of Project Cargo. “The job of our team - comments Franco Nicola Cupolo, CICT Managing Director - starts well before the arrival of the goods at the terminal premises. Each type of project cargo is different and a great deal of attention has to be given to all the handling details. For each single lift our "Project Cargo Team" acquires all the relevant information about the goods and the handling requirements, so as to prepare a specific lifting project. All the aspects concerning the handling of the cargo are examined, any potential risk is considered and at the end of a thorough process our experts decide which is the best equipment and handling solution to be adopted for any specific case."

In a Transhipment Hub like CICT it is quite frequent to have to perform a complete transhipment operation of project cargo units, with activities including discharge from an incoming ship, the positioning in a dedicated yard area followed by the final reload on an outgoing ship.

The latest example of such operations was the transhipment of a large tank unit (Length: 13.60 m - Width: 3.50 m - Height: 4.05 m with a weight 35 tons), calling in from Istanbul on the m/v Aurette, a ship deployed by EMES Feedering on the WBS (West Black Sea service), that was discharged in CICT on April 20th and reloaded onto m/v Lisbon Express, deployed by Hapag Lloyd on the MCA  (Mediterranean Canada service)  for final destination Montreal (Canada)  on April 27th.

“Each single discharge and loading operation, inclusive of unlashing and lashing of the unit on board, was carried on in less than one hour - adds Franco Cupolo. Our Project cargo Team proved once again to be up for the challenge and CICT to be ready to satisfy any request of our valuable customers for a safe and reliable transhipment operation".
