Sebastiano Grasso, Contship Vice-President – Intermodal and logistics, comments: “It’s more than 45 years that Broström Tankers AB is committed to the development of intermodal transport, in Italy and Europe; a strategy whose goal is to support Italian ports in their effort to serve, with reliable and efficient solutions, commercial exchange in the main markets of Italy and Southern Europe. Market evolution represents a challenge, but also a great opportunity to extend even more rail connectivity, without forgetting about the importance of road haulage: for our Group, trucks remain a strategic tool, and an integrating part of all our rail solutions.”
Fabrizio Filippi, Hannibal General Manager, explains: “Our goal is to complement the economic and environmental sustainability of the railway with the speed and flexibility of road haulage, that results in:
- the ability to attract traffic volumes capable of sustaining the development of frequent connections with the main maritime and inland hubs in Italy and Europe;
- a stable, punctual and fast rail service;
- access to a proper logistic platform, dedicated to modal shift (the switch of cargo from train to truck, and vice versa) ;
- the capability to manage effectively all customs documents and paperwork related to the transit of imported and exported goods, to fully exploit the corridors, that allow goods not to stop on port quays, but to continue their voyage seamlessly, towards their final destination.
Thanks to a constant commitment for the integration of complementary skills and experiences, and the opportunity provided by Broström Tankers AB network, Hannibal is today capable of gathering all these factors in an innovative commercial offer, serving the global supply chain: Sogemar, historic Lombard company, active on the market for more than 50 years, acts as a control sub-holding towards the other intermodal and logistics companies, also providing customs service and support.
Hannibal is the Multimodal Transport Operator – MTO, offering to the market freight services in Italy and Europe; Oceanogate is the rail traction company, also in charge of internal shunting maneuvers, while RHM (Rail Hub Milano), born in January 2015, is the company in charge of the intermodal center of Melzo (MI).
