Hannibal renews part of the road fleet with the introduction of five new IVECO S-Way Natural Power LNG-powered trucks
A few days after EcoVadis, a leading company in Corporate Social Responsibility assessments, assigned the Silver Medal to Hannibal, the company announces an important step forward in its efforts to reduce its environmental impact through the revision of the fleet used for container transport.
Hannibal will include 5 new IVECO S-Way Natural Power trucks, fueled by LNG, in the fleet it uses for road transport.
The data declared by the manufacturer IVECO for these vehicles show:
- 90% reduction in NO2 (Nitrogen Dioxide) emissions
- 95% reduction in particulate emissions
- 95% reduction in CO2 emissions, with the use of biomethane
The new vehicles fall into the EURO 6d category and will replace as many EURO 3 trucks. By the end of 2021 it will be possible to check their performance in terms of consumption and usage differences (for example when refueling) compared to diesel-powered trucks.
In the event of a positive outcome of this pilot project, a progressive inclusion of additional LNG units in the fleet of vehicles used by Hannibal for intermodal transport is planned.
Cristiano Pieragnolo, General Manager at Hannibal, commented: “The transport model promoted by Hannibal aims to help lower emissions across the transport supply chain through the intelligent integration of ship, train and truck, so as to be able to offer end-to-end solutions in an even more environmentally sustainable way. With these vehicles, we are very proud to have moved further along the path in reducing emissions from our operations.”
