With an extensive series of successfully completed phase in / out operations in its CV, Cagliari International Container Terminal (CICT) was called upon once again to meet the challenge – this time slightly more complex – to perform a “triple” phase in/out operation.
Berthed immediately upon arrival on July 12th, m/v London Express, an Hapag Lloyd operated ship with 4,616 TEUs in nominal capacity, was discharged of most of her cargo to phase out of the MGX service (Med Gulf Express), and immediately reload to phase in onto another Med – US string, the MPS (Med Pacific Service).
Less than 24 hours later, on Monday 13th, m/v HS Caribe – LOA of 282.10 metres and 4,367 TEUs of nominal capacity – sailed her maiden call into Cagliari and phased in on the MGX as a replacement of the m/v London Express.
All activities onboard the two ships were concluded free of delay, which for CICT staff is normal routine work – as they say a ‘’pat on the back at the end of the day’’. For her first call in Sardinia, m/v HS Caribe in the person of captain Niculae Chivaran was presented with the terminal customized crest, an homage handed over by vessel planner Andrea Pontis, both pictured left.
