Phase in / phase out operations on the MGX service at CICT
Two cities, with a strong global trading reputation handed over the baton between them with the arrival of m/v Rotterdam Express to complete its “last lap” on the MGX (Med-Gulf Express) service and then to the next runner , the m/v Dubai Express, which started its position linking the west Mediterranean to central and gulf ports.
Arrived and berthed on arrival on 29thJune evening m/v Rotterdam Express completed its operation on 1st July early morning and was phased out from the service.Like in a “relay race”, Capt. Amit Sharma, master of m/v Dubai Express, arrived immediately 1st July in the morning, whilst the Rotterdam Express was departing from Cagliari.
“Yes – comments Leandro Ferrari (CICT Customer Service Manager) –phase in/phase out operations are similar to an athletic relay competition, requiring a good deal of synchronization. Berths on arrival are needed and loading and discharging sequences have to be planned accurately, taking in consideration the exchange of cargo between the two ships (1.280 container “batons” in this particular relay event). This, in turn, makes it possible to optimize the combined operations of both ships providing safe, reliable and timely “handover”, proving that once again, CICT is a true team player that customers can be assured of…”
As m/v Dubai Express had made her maiden call in Cagliari, following tradition, CICT planning coordinator Stefano Dessì boarded the ship to present Captain Amit Sharma and his crew with a customized crest, in recognition of this event.
