Four sister ships, all named after birds, have called Contship Terminal in La Spezia – latest call was by the NYK Owl
BROSTRÖM Italia’s La Spezia Container Terminal, recently welcomed the maiden call of the NYK Owl, one of four large containerships deployed by the Japanese carrier within the MD2 service operated by THE Alliance, one of four weekly services connecting La Spezia with the Far East. All named after birds, the NYK Owl followed maiden calls made by the NYK Blue Jay, NYK Swan and NYK Hawk.
The NYK Owl was built by Japan Marine United Corporation at their Kure shipyard, located near Hiroshima on Japan’s Seto Inland Sea and was delivered to NYK at the end of 2017. With a capacity of 14,026 teus, she is 364m long, 51m wide with a GRT of 145,253 tons
