Following the maiden call of m/v CSCL Venus on August 29, La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT) welcomed the first call of m/v CSCL Jupiter, the second vessel of 14,300 TEUs deployed by China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) on the Far East West Med joint service Asia / Med Express Service 1 (AMX1 / AMC1).
The CSCL Jupiter, with an LOA of 366.10 meters, is one of a series of eight ships with a nominal capacity of 14,300 TEUs named after each planet in the solar system.
The ship was berthed on arrival on the evening of August 18th alongside Fornelli East quay, where 5 super-post panamax cranes, including the recently deployed 2x23 rows Chinese-built STSs, immediately started discharging and loading operations, with a total of 2143 container moves and 54 hatch covers moves being completed.
This latest ULCC ship call adds to the growing list of larger ships calling at La Spezia. "The number of ULCCs deployed in the main Far East Mediterranean services – says Roberto Scotto (Customer Service Director) – is constantly increasing and 67 ships of 13,000/14,000 TEUs have already been operated at our terminal in 2015 and will no doubt surpass 100 calls during the full year. This is possible due to the extensive infrastructure upgrade.”
Following tradition, the ship chief officer Sun Qiang was presented with a personalized crest by Paolo Rasi, LSCT planning team, as a memento of m/v CSCL Jupiter maiden call at La Spezia.
