Hannibal, Contship Italia’s Multimodal Transport Operator, has recently launched a new rail service between Milan (Melzo) and Lyon (Venissieux) offering three round-trips per week, with departures from both Milan and Lyon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The new rail service offers an intermodal alternative to full track routing, that will be affected by the Mont Blanc and Fréjus tunnel toll increases (+2.73% from January 1st, 2019) and the traffic ban that will apply to heavy goods vehicles over 7.5tonnes, that do not meet the Euro 4 emission standards.
The intermodal option represents a solution to overcome the growing problem of shortage of truck drivers, which is heavily affecting European supply-chains. A smart combination of rail and truck haulage on medium and long-distance routes can help reduce congestion, CO2 production and environmental pollution, offering a reliable transport solution that combines the efficiency of the train between intermodal hubs, with the flexibility of the truck for first and last mile transport.
The Hannibal team remains fully available to provide more information and to handle any enquiries. You can visit the Service Page on our website to discover more about schedules and operational contacts and request a customized quotation.
