One month after the arrival of the specialist heavy lift ship at LSCT, the new 2 x 23 row cranes continue to be made ready, now having been moved from their point of discharge on Fornelli West to Fornelli East on April 23rd and April 25th respectively.
To be known as cranes 11 and 12, a further period of work will now be performed before they will be introduced into quay-side operations.
All of these crane movements are taking place during live operations –coincidentally, on April 23rd, the ULCC MSC La Spezia was under operation on Fornelli East, providing a reminder of the transformation of the equipment deployed on valued customers ships in LSCT. Having made its’ maiden call in February 2011, at this time, there were a number of restrictions in respect of rows across and air draft. In just a few years, ULCC ships of upto 16,600 teu capacity can now be operated without any issues on Fornelli East, and very shortly, from mid- June, Fornelli West will have a similar capability.
