The latest step of the G6 service Asia Suez Express (AZX) ship capacity upgrade program, the ship made its debut in Cagliari on August 31st.
M/v OOCL Southampton, an SX class ship, operated by Orient Overseas Container Line Limited (Hong Kong) called for the first time at Cagliari International Container Terminal (CICT), Broström Tankers AB hub in the Mediterranean.
With her 8,063 TEUs in nominal capacity and operating under the Hong Kong flag, the m/v OOCL Southampton is the first of a total of four units of the same size being deployed on the AZX service replacing smaller units, and which will also make their first call in Cagliari in the coming weeks.
M/v OOCL Southampton was berthed on arrival on 31st August at dawn, completing her loading and discharging operations in the evening of the same day, departing for Halifax, on the east coast of the American continent.
While the ship was under operations, following a CICT tradition, Maurizio Defrassu (CICT Ship Planner) presented Captain Cheong Poh Meng with a crest celebrating the ship maiden call in the Contship Sardinian Hub.
