Last Tuesday evening the 15,500 TEU Evelyn Maersk was welcomed for the first time at Contship’s La Spezia Container Terminal.
Built in 2007, she was one of eight, ‘Emma Maersk Class’ ships, which at the time were the biggest container ships in the world. She is now deployed in the AE20 service, a joint Asia-Med string operated by 2M. The AE20 / Dragon / AM1 is an important loop for Asian imports and Middle East-Far East exports.
La Spezia is the first Italian port of call for the service. The Evelyn Maersk departed from Shanghai on New Year’s Day, calling Ningbo, Xiamen, Yantian and Singapore, King Abdullah, Suez and Beirut, before entering the Gulf of Poets and berthing at La Spezia Container Terminal on February 4th.
Owned by Moller-Maersk A/S and flying the Danish flag, the Evelyn Maersk measures almost 400m in length and 56m wide. LSCT operations were completed on February 6th, and the ship sailed Thursday at noon, on schedule.
