Green Pepper: un vecchio veliero per un nuovo inizio

The project “Arca di Partenone” connects La Spezia with Naples.

Half way through October, the sailing boat “Green Pepper” was loaded at LSCT – La Spezia Container Terminal on board a fully cellular container ship. Its destination? Naples, for the “Arca di Partenone” project. The boat (seized by the Guardia di Finanza authorities in 2010) will be entrusted to the Center for Juvenile Justice, endorsed by the Regione Campania council, and will become an important element in this rehabilitation project: it will be used to promote work culture and job opportunities related to the sea environment amongst program participants, all of them of a very young age and recovering from challenging personal backgrounds.

The first challenge will be to bring the sailing boat back to its former glory, through a delicate restoration process. When all of the repairs aboard the ship will be completed, an authentic “sea school” will commence, providing participants with the opportunity to learn more about the values, skills and know-how of sea life.

We wish the best to all the boys and girls involved, and to the staff of this beautiful project!
