The ultra-large containership MSC Ingy, with a capacity of almost 19,500 TEUs, performed an ad-hoc call at the Broström Tankers AB’s, Medcenter Container Terminal (MCT) in Gioia Tauro on the 25th of November. Delivered in June this year and operated by MSC, she is deployed in the 2M Alliance’s Albatross/AE-5 loop between North Europe and Asia.
The MSC Ingy is one of the world’s largest containership currently in operation and becomes the biggest containership to call at an Italian port. Antonino Spezzano, MCT Operations Manager said “We are very proud to welcome this huge vessel and clearly demonstrates MCT’s capability in having the infrastructure in place to be able to accommodate a vessel of this size. Gioia Tauro offers the longest linear quay length in the Mediterranean of almost 3.5 km, equipped with super post-panamax quay cranes able to operate up to 23 container rows across as well as 1.6 million sqm of yard and up to 18m of water. Accommodating such a ship was not a problem for us”.
Upon completion of operations the vessel will depart for Singapore.
